CHAIN O'LAKES
Brewing Company

"Good Beer - Made Here"

When the Chain O'Lakes Brewing Company unveils our brew house, we mark the return of the brewer's art to the city of McHenry after a near half-century absence.  With a history of an operating brewery dating back to the 1861, McHenry Brewing Company brewed beer until it closed its doors in the fifties, leaving a great void in the local beer scene.  As a result, local residents' beer choices were limited to the bland, mass-produced malt beverages from national breweries.

Fortunately, the installation of our tiny ale brewery in a historic, turn-of-the-century building will bring with it the return of fresh, handcrafted ales brewed in the Old World tradition.  A far cry from the mainstream lager-brewery products, our Chain O'Lakes Brewing Company ales will be produced from only the finest malted barley extracts, generous amounts of fresh hops, water and specially selected ale yeasts. The end result is a selection of unfiltered, unpasteurized ales in a variety of classic beer styles.  Chain O'Lakes Brewing Company ales can be enjoyed at the peak of freshness directly from the serving tanks.

October - December 2009: We are in the process of establishing the brew house, getting our brewers license and perfecting our product.   The Owner and Brewer will retire from the US Marine Corps after 27 years.  Once he is on site it will be full steam ahead.  Met with the City of McHenry to determine feasible sites.  The city is very supportive of bringing a brewery back to the McHenry area.

January/February 2010:  Working the business plan to obtain financing.  Continuing with site selection.  Col Ames, USMC (Ret) officially retired and is now on site. Chain O'Lakes Brewing Company will begin to market the beer in March through CorkScrew Pointe's Members Room located in the back of the Wine Shop at Riverside Dr and Pearl St in McHenry, IL.  Stop by on Friday Evenings to meet the brewer and see how plans are progressing.

March/April 2010: A site was secured for the brewery and several accounts were established.  The capital equipment was arranged and then the financing fell through.  Back-up financing was attempted but the timeline would have pushed the opening past the 4th of July.  A directors meeting was held and a branch plan was developed.  Curt and Linda decided to secure the building first, perfect the beer styes, and go after private financing.  Chain O'Lakes Brewing Company will be projected to be open in 2012.

In the meantime Curt attended Siebel's Institute of Technology Master of Beer Styles and Evaluation Courses, the Craft Brewers Conference in Chicago, a Breiss Malt Workshop, and a Micromatic Draft Beer Dispense Class.
